Once a permanent fixture, tattoos are now removable by laser therapy. Whether you've developed an infection as a result of a poorly executed tattoo or have simply lost interest in an old tattoo, laser treatments have proven to be a successful removal method. In the past, previous methods such as chemical removal or dermabrasion only led to painful scarring.
Lasers emit a series of short pulses of light intensity that pass harmlessly through very top layers of your skin to be absorbed only by the pigments of the tattoo present. The intensity of the laser energy results in fragmentation of the tattoo pigments, which are then gradually absorbed into the body and eliminated by the immune system. Doctors have even determined which wavelength can be used in regards to the intensity of the light when removing the tattoo ink. The laser will only target the ink pigments that exist and not damage the skin that surrounds it.
